(http://theunoriginalcomic.overminddl1.com/images/Celedhbutton.png)SevTech is fun because it's not just free building. It locks your ability to find ores and recipes until you progress enough, and instead of following a quest book, you follow Achievements, which is similar in concept though.
It just takes forever to get to the point you can use Iron. Before that you are stuck with stone or copper/bronze, while the achievements guide you into making various things. You go through tribal stuff, and basic machinery like smelters and grinders, and progressively work your way toward a space race.
If you like having some liberty to build stuff, but have some kind of progression to follow, it's definitely a fun modpack to play.
