Jokes in which the characters acknolwledge the fact that they are in a comic, and use real-world explanations for in-comic things. (I.e. "Why do we have to go over there?" "Because it'll make for good plot." or "Yuffie and I just aren't going to work out." "Let me guess. Too small of a sprite sheet to keep around.")
